The Motor Sessions EP eM/M. Bentley FOU.08 - eM's first vinyl release is the Motor Sessions EP, and is issued in two formats (both in small quantities). The box set edition (limited to 50 signed/numbered copies) contains two postcards, an essay, numerous texts and illustrations and map fragments (see picture above). The Motor Sessions EP is also available as a 7" "45" in a heavy gold sleeve (go here). Why not talk about modernity with music... how can we avoid it? Electromagnetism, binary data, the motor, all key components of late twentieth century life. The tracks on The Motor Sessions e.p. are a meditation on where we are (or might be), or perhaps a wordless opera in four acts. "These tracks began with field recordings of different kinds of motors, from car engines to refrigerators," explains M. Bentley, who records under the pseudonym eM. "From there I used different approaches to layer analog sounds over the base recordings. These tracks were very much shaped by the qualities and structure of those original motor sounds, though the field recordings did not always survive the final mixing." TRACK LISTING: 1. machine cognates [4.14] [RealAudio 1.03] 2. ratchet [3.25] [RealAudio 1.42] 3. bee's house burning circuits [3.47] 4. dreaming of nod [3.28] [RealAudio 1.15] Reviews can be found here. |
